Vietnamese Refugees Organisation
Organisation –
Lien
Viet Joins ISHA
Lien Viet Housing Association is
one
of only two housing organisations in the UK working with people
and communities from Viet Nam. In October 2008 Lien Viet joined
Islington & Shoreditch HA (ISHA) in a group structure
arrangement which will should enable us to benefit further from
the wide range of services and knowledge that a larger
association can offer. Most importantly we will continue to
operate autonomously within this group structure and ISHA
recognise and value the almost unique role we have in trying to
meet the housing needs of the Vietnamese community in
particular.
We are looking
forward to working with
ISHA after what has been a turbulent year. Our former parent
association was Ujima who went out of business in early 2008. As
a result Lien Viet was transferred to London & Quadrant HT as
part of the deal that saw them absorb all of Ujima’s assets and
liabilities. We were given time by London & Quadrant to secure
an autonomous future which the Lien Viet board continued to
believe was vital in order to provide culturally sensitive
services. Early on in this process the Lien Viet board chose
ISHA as our preferred parent organisation and this decision was
finally approved by the relevant authorities in October 2008.
